Martham Primary School
Year 6 (10-11 year olds)
Prior to embarking on Monochrome, Semitone, Kodachrome mail
art, working with teacher artist, Elaine Elliott, children explored ripped
paper landscapes and then worked into them using a range of media. The mail art project was an open task but
pupils used skills and techniques that they had discovered when exploring landscapes.
The mail art project started as a reading café, using the
children’s picture book Dear Greenpeace.
Parents were invited to support and learn alongside their children.
When looking at the work, you may find signs of zentangle
art (which the children looked at when creating their landscapes). Some show a
clear understanding from monochrome through to polychrome whereas some children
just liked the opportunity to use colour.
Elaine loves language and uses journals to teach within the
class. Some children have embraced this.
The children demonstrate their understanding of what some other international
mail artists have find to ‘get their heads around’! Thank you Elaine for your dedication to the
cause and your enthusiastic creative work with young people!
